316 Stainless Steel to the rescue

As good as 304 stainless steel is, sometimes it can’t do the job. For example, demand is increasing for casters that can withstand intense cleaning procedures. Similarly, IT production facilities now require an environment that is completely free of any contaminants. In many of these cases, the ideal solution is 316 stainless steel.

What’s different about 316 Stainless?

Stainless steel is actually a mixture of steel and a minimum of 10.5% chromium. It’s the chromium that keeps the steel from oxidizing, rusting, and corroding. 304 stainless steel contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel.

Stainless 316 is made up of 16% chromium, 10% nickel and 2% molybdenum. There’s a little more nickel and a little less chromium than in 304. However, the big difference is the molybdenum, a chemical element used for the strengthening and hardening of steel. The higher molybdenum content greatly increases the corrosion resistance of 316.

With a capacity of 1250 lbs., these casters are ideal for a wide range of applications. 316 stainless offers superior resistance to chlorides and acids. ALK Braking Mechanism

ALK braking mechanism is engaged by stepping on the Toe that securely and positively locks two rubber grommets to the tread of the wheel and simultaneously locks the swivel raceway in any position. ALK is conveniently located in lead position and has metal construction that will stand up to industrial abuse. Available in stainless steel.

Pedal Wheel Brake (PWB)

Pedal Wheel Brake mechanism engages a positive braking action on the tread surface of the wheel. Plastic petal resists rust and corrosion in wet environments. Available in stainless steel.

All Swivel Lock (ASL) All Wheel Lock (AWL) Braking Mechanism

ASL braking mechanism is engaged by stepping on the Toe that securely and positively locks the swivel raceway in any position. AWL brake mechanism is engaged by stepping on the Toe that securely and positively locks two rubber grommets to the tread of the wheel.

Side Locking Brake (SLB)

Side Locking Brake is the most economical wheel brake. When the SLB is engaged, it compresses the hub of the yoke, creating friction upon the hub of the wheel. The larger casters have a large foot pedal that makes engaging brake easy to operate and easy access to engage brake. Available in stainless steel.

Double Locking Brake (DLB)

Double Locking Brake mechanism engages a positive braking action on the tread surface of the wheel, while simultaneously locking the swivel raceway in any position. Plastic petal resists rust and corrosion in wet environments. Available in stainless steel.

Top Locking Brake (TLB)

The Top Locking Brake creates a positive braking action on the surface of the wheel. TLB1 is same as TLB but with actuator that is coated with a polyurethane coating that gives a greater positive lock on the surface of the wheel. TLB2 same as TLB but with a larger foot pedal making brake easier to engage and disengage and provides better foot placement.

eHABS – Emergency Hand Activated Brake System™ – patent pending

The Hand Braking Device has many possibilities that allow for a brake or swivel lock to be engaged and disengaged by hand, instead of the conventional foot operated devices. The HBD is excellent for ergonomically challenged applications. As well, the brake can be engaged with greater speed.

Thumb Screw Brake (TSB)

The Thumb Screw Brake is engaged manually by turning rugged screw, which engages positively to the wheel hub.

Position Swivel Lock (PSL)

Position Swivel Lock converts a swivel caster to rigid. PSL can be disengaged into neutral position to allow for free swiveling action. The spring loaded plunger is hand operated to fit into slots in the swivel raceway. Can be purchased pre-welded to top plate when mounting bolts to the top plate.

Universal Wheel Brake (UWB)

Universal Wheel Brake is pre-welded to fork of caster. UWB is engaged by stepping on the Toe brake that securely and positively locks to the tread of the wheel. Wheel lock can be easily adjusted to accommodate variable tolerances in wheels.
